Erin Delise Wedding 04/05/13 at the magical Cedar Creek Lodges Mt Tamborine

It's 7am and a beautiful crisp temperate morning up the Mountain; this would have to be one of our favourite wedding locations.  The work station is set on a balcony in a picture perfect location amidst lush rainforest, piccabeen palms whilst listening to the dancing waters of Cedar Creek.  Moving shadows, dappled sunlight, trickling water and birdsong add to the ambience as the Hollywood Brides wedding hair and makeup team begin to work their magic.

best hair and make-up for bride

With our many years of experience we always offer suggestions regarding the best wedding hair and makeup for any location.  For an outdoor wedding it is not advisable to leave the hair completely out so our bride Erin had a soft and romantic half up style with tresses brought forward in loose waves with a beautiful deep-parted fringe.  The makeup was a waterproof airbrush foundation that will not rub off with tears and sweat ensuring that the makeup continued to look flawless in real life and photos throughout the day.  A timeless bridal look of charcoal and white smoky eyes with full strip lashes and a nude lip set the tone for our sultry gorgeous bride.

Erin is from Mackay so we were unable to do a trial prior to the day, however her tears of joy when she looked in the mirror were enough validation that she absolutely loved her wedding day hair and makeup look.

 wedding real flowers or silk
Our bride sourced her artificial flowers over the internet from America and for a third of the price.  No need to worry if the flowers aren’t seasonal; you can have your favourite flowers all year round.   Erin is very creative and the silk flowers allowed her to have a far more themed and arty wedding bouquet. You can really express yourself with artificial flowers and these were really beautiful.  The rustic country theme was followed right through to the table settings and hessian bag bonbonniere.

While you need a photographer that takes your budget, style and needs into consideration, you also have to find one that will make you and your wedding party feel at ease.  Equally important as personality is the photographers eye; the way he or she sees and captures the wedding day.  Below is Julie Collins Photographer showing the bride Erin how to naturally pose to ensure she looks her best.

Wedding day hair & makeup - how much to pay?

The stylist you choose for your bridal hair and makeup can make or break your big day...

The right stylist can work with you to create a look that makes you feel like a Hollywood Movie Star.  A professional stylist will bring up-to-date knowledge of current styles and trends to the job and a stylist that works on fashion campaigns is on the cutting edge of bridal fashion.

Hollywood Brides Makeup Editorial Bridal Fashion VFox
Many of our clients tell us that their bridesmaids don’t want to pay for professional wedding hair and makeup services because they can either do it themselves, or they cannot afford to pay for it. We understand that being in a wedding is a huge commitment, both time-wise and financially. We often tell brides that providing professional hair and makeup services for the girls is one of the single-most important things they can do.  Any professional Wedding Photographer will agree.

Professional hairstylists and makeup artists use the right products and techniques to make your hair and makeup last ALL day. It’s one thing to look great when you leave your house that morning, it’s another thing to still look great when you make your grand exit that night.

So this leads us to the question "how much should you pay"? Remember products used by Professionals are high end and are not purchased from Chemists or Retail Shops, they are trade quality and more expensive.  I have done some extensive research for Queensland and If you want to pay for experience then prices can average anywhere from $85 - $140 for Makeup and from $60 - $160 for hair.  Obviously their are cheaper options out there but I have found that these providers are new to the industry and are just getting started or only do Weddings as a weekend hobby or second income.  If you want to go for a cheaper option, always ask to look at a portfolio, current insurance details and references/testimonials at the very least.

Are you a Payless Shoes, David Jones or Jimmy Choo kinda shoe gal?...

Horses for courses and I guess it just boils down to the importance you place on your hair and makeup. Luckily at Hollywood Brides we have packages to suit all budgets and no matter what you choose you will always get quality.

I will leave you with an email I received from a bride yesterday.....

Hi Monique,

A Professional has Credentials, Insurances, a
Portfolio of work, Website and will always
arrive on time, keep everyone calm and do an
amazing job.
Thank you for getting back to me in regards to the hair and makeup. To be honest with you I have been married before when I was a lot younger and I went really cheap for my hair and makeup not paying attention to the fact the person had only just finished there courses. Needless to say I was so devastated with the look and my hair was a disaster that we even tried to brush it all out and straighten it. The girl wouldn't even try to fix it as she had another bride she had booked to close to my wedding.
This is the whole reason I have done a lot of research on the Internet this time and why I want Hollywood Brides. I have read everything on your website and watched the you tube video's so I know that I am getting a professional this time around. If my girls do not want to pay I'm going to offer to pay half to try and sway them around so I can at least book with you before its to late. I just want to let you know my wedding is on a Thursday as I noticed you mentioned how weekends in September are so busy. I hope being through the week I can still book with you.
Again thank you for the reply, I'm surprised that this happens often as the girls I had first time were fantastic with all of this stuff. I will let you know asap and proceed with booking.

Thank you Monique, kind regards Kristen

Bridesmaids…. How to stop them from turning into “Bridesmaidzillas”.

Weddings often focus on the brides’ style, but I think bridesmaids deserve a look in too! After all, you want your friends and family to look amazing, and feel great too.  In my opinion the bride is always the most beautiful woman on the day regardless.

I have been in this business a long time and every now and then bringing the brides wedding dreams to life for her bridesmaids is like a tug of war experience.  Sometimes making and keeping bridesmaids happy with hair and makeup choices is especially stressful and coupled with an ill fitting or unflattering dress bingo bridesmaidzilla”.

In all honesty I can’t say I blame them, they want to look good, too.  This is where it is critical to pick a style flattering to every shape and size.  Consider the height, dress size and body shape of each of your bridesmaids and select a gown accordingly. If you have a bridesmaid who has larger hips or legs, an A-line skirt is the best option for bridesmaids of all shapes and sizes. For a bridesmaid who has a larger bust, she might feel more comfortable with straps on her dress versus a strapless style.  The same rules apply for hair and makeup, the style you pick may not suit the face shape and features of every bridesmaid, so you need to be flexible and allow variations on the look.
Here are some suggestions for current on trend Bridesmaids looks:

A new trend is many brides are allowing their maids to select whatever style they prefer.   A bride chooses a designer’s color and fabric, and the bridesmaids may select any gown within those parameters.  Hair and makeup ideas are discussed and each look is not identical but works as a theme.  Not a bad idea as this eclectic look is not only distinctive but allows everyone to feel comfortable and beautiful.

A personal favorite look of mine is an eclectic vintage inspired variation rather than everyone looking uniform.

This is a photo of Jess and her bridal party a Real Wedding we did the makeup for last year. These were the most beautiful maids dresses I had ever seen.  The pastel colour palette and soft floral vintage print was so feminine and pretty. The A-line shape suited all the body shapes.

In conclusion suffice to say I think the most important factor to all brides is ensuring that there bridesmaid’s look and feel their best too.

Why you should never skimp on wedding photography…

So here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a wedding photographer….

1. Choose a wedding photographer. Yes your uncle, cousin, brother might have an amazing camera but that doesn’t make him a photographer. You might know a brilliant surf or fashion photographer but shooting a wedding is completely different to the style of photography they’re used to. A good wedding photographer will be there to capture moments that another photographer will overlook, they know how to anticipate beautiful moments. They’ll capture the beauty, the drama, they’ll tell your story the way they know how. They have an eye for creative details… the beautiful table settings, a hand written note from your fiance on the morning of your wedding, the song that was playing on your ipod while you prepare with your bridesmaids. A great wedding photographer knows how to capture the dramatic moments and all of the beautiful things that happen in between; A flowergirl & page boy exchanging a kiss on the cheek in the background, the tight grip of your hands during your ceremony, tears welling up in your fathers eyes, the laughter during the best man’s speech, your fiance’s intense gaze as he watches you walk down the aisle… Wedding photography is an artform that should be left to the professionals who live & breathe it.

2. Choose a photographer you get along with. Your wedding photographer plays a huge role in your wedding, they’re with you from the moment you start getting ready to the second you depart your reception. You need to make sure you feel at ease in their presence. They won’t always be noticeable while shooting, but it makes such a difference having a photographer who’s personality is a great fit with you + your fiance and compliments the style of your wedding.

3. Make sure the photographer’s work resinates with you. You’ll know in an instant if a photographer is right for you. When you look through their website or blog you’ll have a connection to their style and the way they tell a couple’s story. Don’t ever try and change a photographers style, look at their work and think about how well their style fits with your wedding and you as a couple. You need to be confident enough on the day to simply let them do their thing. Magic is created when you allow creativity to flow and a photograph should never be over-styled or directed – the result is always a staged picture that doesn’t communicate real emotion and show the true beauty of your wedding day.

There are some incredible photographers in the wedding industry (& some really, really bad one’s!!), and I’m passionate about only promoting work that I feel is right for the type of brides we cater for.

"Oh no you Di'n't!...Don't go there girlfriend *snap snap*

"Oh no you Di'n't! just tell me:- "I’m just going to have my friend do the wedding hair and make-up. I love the way she does hers and she’ll do it for free".

That’s wonderful that your friend wants to help you out, and I’m sure she does know how to do her hair and makeup beautifully. But I want to hand out a small caution. Just because she knows how to do her own doesn’t mean she can do it on someone else, or more importantly on you.

Makeup is so much more than a little color here and there. With proper application and knowledge, you can diminish how noticeable certain aspects of yourself are, and enhance others…especially in your photos. Products are not just 'off the shelf' they are high def quality minus the nasties like certain minerals and sunscreen that do not photography properly. Hair is just as challenging with different hair types and knowing what products to use as a bit of hairspray is not going to cut it I'm afraid and neither is too much.

"My budget is small and I just can’t afford it".

Almost all brides have budgets they have to adhere to, and there is always a compromise on what you want. But how you feel about yourself and how you look should not be one of them. Some of the very best services for hair and makeup artists are very affordable! They will most likely be cheaper than anything else in your wedding. At Hollywood Brides we even offer 3 different service levels to suit all budgets.

You’ve spent hundreds if not thousands on your dress, your flowers, your decorations, your rings, a location, a photographer, a videographer, a DJ, a cake, catering…and perhaps many other things.

You’ve spent numerous hours (a full time jobs worth) planning every last detail, so your love story can have this perfect moment and you don't want to look like this OMG...
Oh no she Di'n't!... uhm...oh yes she did..

Eye on Beauty

Eyelash extensions are the hottest beauty trend to sweep the world today.

The stars do not leave home without a set of glamorous eyelash extensions, supermodels are always wearing their eyelash extensions, and entertainers have known about and loved eyelash extensions for years.

I have started offering this service to all my clients particularly my Brides.  What a fantastic way to permanently look amazing on your honeymoon with minimal fuss.  A Natural set of Lash extensions takes just over an hour to attach and involves individual synthetic lash being glued to every third lashes with an invisible seal that gives the impression of long, thick, lush lashes.

The extensions feel weightless and provide a lush appearance. You will then need your eyelash extensions in-filled, similar to artificial nail or hair appointments.

People are budgeting for their eyelash extensions like they do for their regular hair and nail touch-ups.  The procedure is an effective way to brighten your appearance 24/7 and extensions improve your appearance without surgery.

This is one beauty treatment that's not a fad and it has really taken off, and made an impact on people's beauty regime.

Requiring between 20 and 30 lashes an eye, the Special Introductory cost is $50 (normally $80) for a Natural set and $35 for a touch-up every two to three weeks.

The lashes play a very important role in making your eyes look beautiful. If you look at people who have no or very few lashes, their eyes look very tiny.
Eyelash extensions make the eyes look wider. This is a very sensual sexy look. This will definitely make them stand out more. They will be the main focus point on your face. In addition, the lashes make your natural lashes look enhanced.

Make your booking today and be transformed into a vision of beauty.
